As Heroin Overdose Continues Rising, We Continue Fighting

Heroin use has doubled. Today, an estimated 25% of all drug overdoses are caused by this dangerous opiate. Even more alarming? Nearly half of all people who are struggling with heroin addiction started out with prescription painkillers.

For John Cunningham, a Footprints Beachside Recovery alum, a truck accident led to a doctor’s prescription for opioid pain medication. From there, Cunningham soon turned to buying heroin on the street as a cheaper, more easily accessible alternative to pills.

After a decade of living with opioid addiction, a chronic—often fatal—disease, Cunningham finally got the care he needed to take back his life. Working together with the heroin addiction treatment experts at Footprints, he learned how to manage his disease through a combination of proven techniques, including diet, exercise, therapy and ongoing support meetings.

Cunningham recently sat down with John Templeton, founder of Footprints Beachside Recovery, to share his story with the local Ivanhoe News audience. Hear more about his experience below, or learn how we can help you or a loved one overcome addiction to heroin.
