Using UnitedHealthcare for Rehab — What Treatment Looks Like at Footprints

When someone finally reaches out for help, insurance questions can feel like another barrier. Most families aren’t sure what their plan covers, how fast treatment can start, or what the costs might actually be.

If you have insurance through UnitedHealthcare, our team at Footprints Beachside Recovery helps you sort through those details before treatment begins. We explain what your plan may help pay for, what approvals are needed, and what costs you may be responsible for—clearly and without pressure.

When Footprints works directly with a UnitedHealthcare plan, families often experience fewer delays, clearer answers, and more predictable costs. If coverage is limited, we’ll tell you that early and talk through next steps honestly.

What UnitedHealthcare May Help Cover at Footprints

Every UnitedHealthcare plan is different, but many include benefits for addiction and mental health treatment when care is appropriate.

Here’s how coverage usually lines up with treatment at Footprints.

Detox & Medical Stabilization

Detox is about safety first.

  • Alcohol withdrawal often needs to be handled at a nearby medical detox facility before someone comes to Footprints
  • Opioid, fentanyl, and benzodiazepine withdrawal can sometimes be managed at Footprints after a medical screening
  • Decisions are based on health history and safety—not convenience or cost

If a higher level of medical care is needed, we help coordinate that transition smoothly.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) with Housing

This is our most structured level of care.

  • A very small group of clients, so no one feels overlooked
  • Separate living spaces for men and women
  • Full treatment days with therapy, medical support, and structure
  • Living in a real home near the beach—not a hospital or dorm-style facility

Many UnitedHealthcare plans help cover this level of care when it’s needed.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) & Step-Down Care

Recovery doesn’t end when someone leaves housing.

  • Daytime IOP for people who need strong support
  • Evening IOP for those who must keep working
  • Step-down care that allows treatment to continue gradually instead of stopping suddenly

This helps people stay connected to care as they rebuild daily life.

Therapy & Mental Health Support

Many people who struggle with addiction are also dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or long-term stress.

UnitedHealthcare plans often include coverage for:

  • One-on-one therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Care that treats mental health and substance use together

At Footprints, these issues are addressed at the same time—not separately.

Holistic Support (No Extra Charges)

Yoga, meditation, nutrition guidance, acupuncture, and experiential activities are part of everyday treatment at Footprints.

These services are included in the program, not billed separately. Families don’t see extra charges for participating in them.

How We Help You Use UnitedHealthcare

You don’t need to figure this out on your own.

  • We check your UnitedHealthcare benefits for you
  • We explain what parts of treatment may be covered
  • We walk through deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket costs in plain language
  • We handle required approvals with the insurance company

You’re welcome to call UnitedHealthcare yourself—but many families prefer having us explain what the answers actually mean.

If You’re Not Sure What Insurance You Have (or It’s Through a Parent)

A lot of people aren’t certain what their insurance covers—or even whose plan they’re on. That’s more common than you might think.

How to Read a UnitedHealthcare Insurance Card

If you have access to the insurance card, here’s what’s helpful to look for:

  • Member Name – This may be your name or your parent’s name
  • Member ID – The number used to look up benefits
  • Group Number – Identifies the specific employer or plan
  • Customer Service Phone Number – Usually on the back of the card

You don’t need to understand the card in detail. Even a photo of the front and back is often enough for our admissions team to check benefits for you.

If You’re on a Parent’s Insurance Plan

Many adults in their 20s—and sometimes older—are still covered under a parent’s insurance. This does not prevent someone from getting treatment.

  • Will my parent be notified?
Insurance statements may be sent to the policyholder, but care itself remains confidential. We can explain what usually appears on insurance paperwork.
  • Can I call without my parent involved?
Yes. We can verify benefits and talk through options privately.
  • Does age matter?
As long as the plan is active, coverage is based on medical need—not who the policyholder is.

If you’re unsure whether you’re covered, we can help determine that quickly.

Don’t Have the Card Handy?

That’s okay.

  • Call us and share the name on the policy and employer (if known), or
  • Call UnitedHealthcare directly using the phone number on their website, or
  • Reach out when you do have access—we’ll pick up where you left off

Not having these details should never stop someone from asking for help.

If You Call UnitedHealthcare Yourself

If you do want to speak with UnitedHealthcare directly, this script can help:

“I’m calling to check my behavioral health and substance use treatment benefits.”

Ask about:

  • Detox coverage
  • Treatment with housing or structured day programs
  • Outpatient treatment
  • Medication support
  • What you’ll need to pay out of pocket
  • Any approvals needed before treatment

Before ending the call, ask:

“Can you email me a summary of these benefits?”

If UnitedHealthcare Doesn’t Cover Everything

If insurance doesn’t cover all costs, we’ll calmly walk through other options:

  • Private pay
  • Family support
  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)
  • Community or nonprofit resources when available

There’s no pressure—just clear information.

Why Families Choose Footprints

  • A small number of clients, so everyone receives real attention
  • Care that addresses trauma and mental health—not just substance use
  • A calm beachside setting that helps people slow down and stabilize
  • A full path of care: detox coordination → structured treatment → outpatient support
  • Honest insurance conversations before admission
  • Joint Commission accredited
  • Licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families
